Are all financial advisors in Los Alamitos, CA fiduciaries?
No — and around a military installation the question carries extra weight. Service members and base civilians have long been a target market for high-cost insurance and annuity products sold as "retirement planning," precisely because military pay is steady and the sellers face no fiduciary duty. A fiduciary cannot work that way: your interest first, every conflict disclosed, no exceptions.
Aduna Capital is a registered investment adviser and fiduciary in all engagements — fee-only, meaning clients are the only party who ever pays us. Our registration and record are public at adviserinfo.sec.gov.
Who do we work with in Los Alamitos?
Los Alamitos is tiny — about 12,000 residents — but unusually dense with institutions: the Joint Forces Training Base, the Los Alamitos Medical Center, and a business base far larger than the population suggests. Median household income is $96,269, and the households here are mostly professional families with several benefit systems tangled together:
- Base-connected households. Guard and reserve members, base civilian staff, and veterans hold TSP accounts, military pension entitlements and civilian 401(k)s side by side — often with nobody ever modelling them together. We do exactly that, and we handle TSP and 401(k) rollover questions by direct transfer when consolidation genuinely helps (and say so when leaving the TSP alone is better).
- Medical Center staff and practices. Hospital 403(b)s and the medical and professional offices around the campus — many now inside the state retirement mandate. CalSavers for Los Alamitos employers covers the choice.
- Professional families and public employees. Two-career households coordinating accounts, plus the usual OC pension split: city staff in CalPERS, County of Orange workers in OCERS, district educators in CalSTRS — each with permanent elections.

Common questions from Los Alamitos
Should I roll my TSP into an IRA when I leave the Guard?
Not automatically — the TSP's costs are among the lowest anywhere, and we say so plainly. The honest analysis weighs those costs against the flexibility an IRA adds for withdrawals, Roth conversions and estate choices. We charge nothing to run it, and we earn nothing from the answer being 'stay put.'
We're a two-career family with accounts everywhere. What does working with you look like?
One coordinated plan: every account inventoried, costs read out, the pension and TSP modelled beside the 401(k)s, and a single investment policy across it all — for a published 1.5%–2.0% fee with no account minimum.
I run a professional office near the Medical Center. Does the state mandate reach a staff of four?
Yes — it now covers every California employer with at least one employee. Register with CalSavers or sponsor your own plan and certify an exemption; penalties for ignoring it run up to $750 per eligible employee. We price both routes for your census, free.
