We work with Canoga Park families and small-business owners: the shop, restaurant and auto-trade owners along Sherman Way and Vanowen, the machinists and technicians in the industrial blocks off De Soto, and the people who commute a mile east into the Warner Center offices. The common question is how to turn an uneven working income into a retirement account that actually gets funded — in English or Spanish, and without a minimum.
Start with the honest part: we are 45.1 miles from Canoga Park
We do not have an office in Canoga Park, and we are not going to imply otherwise with a service-area pin. our principal office is at 12838 Rosecrans Ave in Norwalk, about 45.1 miles away. If a firm's Canoga Park page does not tell you where its actual office is, that is worth noticing — the August 2026 teardown of this market found out-of-area firms running dozens of city pages each, including one with a Norwalk page containing nothing about Norwalk.
So the question is not proximity. It is whether what we do is worth the drive, a video call, or us coming to you — because we do all three, and evenings run by video. Two things travel perfectly well over distance and are unusually hard to find at any distance: a fee schedule published on the website, and a fiduciary standard you can hold us to in writing. Neither requires us to be down the street.
Is your financial advisor in Canoga Park actually a fiduciary?
Most people assume yes. The answer depends on how the person is registered. An investment adviser representative owes a fiduciary duty — care and loyalty, across the whole relationship, and it cannot be waived. A registered representative of a broker-dealer is held to Regulation Best Interest, which attaches at the moment of a recommendation and, in the SEC's own words, imposes no duty to monitor an account absent an agreement.
Both can be good at the job. They are not the same promise. You can check any firm in ten minutes: Form ADV at adviserinfo.sec.gov, individuals on BrokerCheck, and the Form CRS. Ours is linked here, and the standard is spelled out on our fiduciary page. Aduna Capital is fee-only: paid by clients, by nobody else, with no commissions and no proprietary products. Who we work with in Canoga Park
Canoga Park is the west Valley's working half. Sherman Way through the old business district is a dense, largely Latino-owned commercial row — markets, taquerías, barber shops, insurance and tax-preparation offices, tyre and body shops — and the streets behind it are a mix of 1950s tract houses and post-war apartment blocks with a high share of renters. Four miles north, Porter Ranch has a median household income nearly twice this one. Same Valley, same council district in places, completely different balance sheet.
The industrial spine still runs along Canoga Avenue and De Soto, where Rocketdyne built rocket engines for decades and where machine shops, plastics fabricators and small aerospace subcontractors still occupy the tilt-ups. Westfield Topanga sits at the neighbourhood's western edge, and the Metro G Line's Canoga station puts a lot of residents on a bus to Warner Center or North Hollywood rather than in a car. The result is a household mix that a wealth-management page usually ignores: hourly and shift workers, one-truck contractors, salon and shop owners, and salaried office staff, often in the same building.
What we are useful for here is unglamorous. A first brokerage or Roth IRA account. A 401(k) from a job three employers ago that nobody rolled over. An owner who has been paying herself last for eleven years and has no plan of any kind. Our minimum is $50 a month of continuing deposits, which is deliberately set where a working household in this neighbourhood can actually reach it. Why we built it that way.
The local employer base
Warner Center offices, a mile east
Insurance carriers, banks, healthcare administration and professional services fill the towers just over the Canoga Park line. Nearly all are private 401(k) plans, some with employee stock purchase plans or restricted stock. Worth knowing what the plan's funds actually cost you: run the fees.
Light manufacturing off De Soto and Canoga
Machine shops, metal finishing, plastics and small aerospace subcontractors. Plans range from a well-run safe-harbor 401(k) to nothing at all, with CalSavers filling the gap. Shop-floor staff often have no employer match and no idea whether they are enrolled. Machine shops.
LAUSD campuses
Canoga Park High School and the elementary and middle schools around it are Los Angeles Unified. Certificated staff are CalSTRS members; classified staff — aides, custodians, office personnel — are in CalPERS. Supplemental accounts are sold on campus, and the gap between a cheap index option and an annuity carrying a surrender charge is not something anyone at the school is obliged to explain to you.
Sherman Way owner-operators
Restaurants, salons, auto repair, landscaping and trucking, most with fewer than ten employees. The owner is usually the last person in the business with no retirement account. A SEP or a solo 401(k) frequently beats what the payroll company is selling: the comparison.
Public pensions and rollovers
Canoga Park is mostly a private-plan neighbourhood. The public-system exception is Los Angeles Unified — CalSTRS for teachers and counsellors, CalPERS for classified staff — plus the City of Los Angeles employees who live here and belong to LACERS. If you are in one of those systems the pension is only part of the picture; the 403(b) or 457(b) sitting beside it is the part nobody reviews. CalSTRS · CalPERS · 403(b) plans.
If you are leaving a job, the rollover decision is where the most money is quietly lost — the 20% mandatory withholding under IRC § 3405(c) catches people who take the cheque themselves. The four options, step by step · Seven costly mistakes · Run the numbers. For public employees: CalPERS, CalSTRS, LACERA and OCERS explained.

Canoga Park questions
I rent in Canoga Park and I probably always will. Is investing even worth it?
Yes, and arguably more so. Renting means your money is not locked into an illiquid asset that takes six weeks and 6% to sell, which makes a taxable brokerage account and a Roth IRA the two places your future actually gets built. The advice people are usually given — buy a house first — is not advice, it is a default. How we invest.
I own a shop on Sherman Way with four employees. Where does a retirement plan even start?
With one decision: register for CalSavers, or sponsor your own plan and certify the exemption. The mandate now reaches any employer in the state with an employee on payroll. Which way you go depends on whether you want to put money away for yourself too, because CalSavers is a Roth IRA and will not take much. Keep it separate from your city obligations: the mandate is state law, while your business tax registration and the minimum wage you owe come from the City of Los Angeles, which is the jurisdiction you are trading in here. Business retirement plans · Compare the two.
I have three old 401(k)s from three different jobs. What do I do with them?
Find the statements first — small balances get force-transferred to IRAs the account holder never opened. Then consolidate by direct trustee-to-trustee transfer, never by cheque. The rollover guide walks the four options and the mistakes covers what goes wrong.
Do you actually meet clients from Canoga Park, or is this page just for search?
We meet them. Our office is at 12838 Rosecrans Ave in Norwalk, about 45.1 miles from Canoga Park — clients come to us, we come to them, or we meet by video, and evening appointments can be arranged. What we will not do is claim an office in Canoga Park that does not exist. Call (657) 571-2607. We are registered as an investment adviser in California.
What is the account minimum?
There isn't one to open. We ask for $50 a month of continuing deposits, because a plan you do not fund is not a plan. Our fee is 1.5% to 2.0% of assets under management per year, billed quarterly, and it is published — which is more than most firms in this market will tell you before a meeting.
