Are all financial advisors in Artesia, CA fiduciaries?

No — and in a city built on family businesses, the sales usually arrive through trusted channels: a product pitched at a community event, an insurance "plan" recommended by an acquaintance. The seller may be perfectly sincere and still owe you no legal duty at all. A fiduciary is different — bound by law to put your interests first and to disclose how they are paid.

Aduna Capital is a registered investment adviser, a fiduciary at all times, and fee-only: our clients are our only source of revenue, and our fee schedule is published below. Verify our registration at adviserinfo.sec.gov.

Who do we work with in Artesia?

Artesia packs more entrepreneurship per square mile than any city on our list. With just over 16,000 residents, it has among the highest small-business densities per capita in the area — anchored by the Little India commercial district on Pioneer Boulevard, with its jewellery houses, restaurants, groceries and textile and retail businesses, most of them family-owned and many of them multi-generational. Median household income is $101,004; the city sits in ABC Unified School District, and it is barely three miles from our office.

The work Artesia brings us is distinctly a business-family practice:

  • Shop and restaurant owners on the mandate. Nearly every Pioneer Boulevard business with an employee is now required to offer retirement access. For owner families, the decisive detail is usually that CalSavers is a Roth IRA — income limits can shut successful owners out of the very program they administer, while a 401(k) or SEP has no such ceiling. CalSavers for Artesia employers lays it out.
  • Business wealth that lives in the business. Inventory-heavy businesses — jewellery above all — concentrate family net worth inside the shop. Building retirement assets outside the business, steadily and tax-efficiently, is the core planning problem, and it is solvable.
  • Multi-generational households. Parents who built the business, children deciding whether to run it, and savings goals on both sides. We plan across the generations at one table — and with no account minimum, the younger generation starts now, not "once there's enough."

Common questions from Artesia

Our shop is family-run — my brother and I plus two employees. Does the mandate reach us?

With two non-owner employees, almost certainly yes: you must register with CalSavers or sponsor a qualified plan and certify an exemption. Family-only businesses can fall outside it, but the definitions are precise — worth confirming rather than assuming. We check it with you at no charge.

Most of our wealth is in the business and its inventory. Where would retirement money even come from?

From structure. A modest, automatic monthly amount into a plan outside the business — a Solo 401(k), SEP or 401(k) depending on your payroll — builds an asset that does not depend on the shop's next season. The habit matters more than the starting amount, which is why our minimum is $50 a month.

Can our parents and our own family be advised together?

Yes, and it usually works better that way — succession, the business, and both generations' retirements are one picture, not three. We are comfortable with the family-meeting format and take no commissions on anything, so there is no product agenda in the room.

Do you understand businesses like ours, or just office payrolls?

Artesia's mix — retail counters, jewellery inventory, restaurant shifts, family employment — is exactly the small-business base this firm was built around. And when a question needs your CPA or an attorney, we say so and work alongside them rather than pretending to be them.
