Are all financial advisors in Norwalk, CA fiduciaries?
No — and this is the first thing worth checking about anyone you might hire, including us. A fiduciary is legally required to put your interests first at all times. Many people who use the title "financial advisor" are brokers or insurance agents held to a lower standard, paid by commission on the products they recommend. In a city where most families are building first-generation wealth, that distinction is not academic: commission products sold in living rooms and staff lounges are exactly how this community gets over-charged.
Aduna Capital is a registered investment adviser and a fiduciary at all times. We are fee-only — paid by clients, never by product providers. You can verify our registration in about a minute at adviserinfo.sec.gov, and you should do the same for any adviser you interview.
Who do we work with in Norwalk?
Norwalk has roughly 100,000 residents, a median household income near $100,085, and a 70.4% Hispanic or Latino population. That shapes the practice. Many households here include the first person in the family to hold a retirement account, often saving for themselves while supporting parents, and often told by bigger firms that they don't have enough to be worth advising. Our answer to that is structural: $0 to open an account, $50 a month ongoing.
Three groups define the local picture:
- Public employees. The City of Norwalk (CalPERS), Norwalk–La Mirada Unified and Cerritos College (CalSTRS), Metropolitan State Hospital and County facilities (LACERA and state systems). Each system has different tiers, formulas and survivor elections — and several of those decisions are permanent. Start with our pension guides.
- Small business owners. The Firestone and Rosecrans corridors are dense with restaurants, auto shops, dental practices and trades — nearly all now covered by the state retirement mandate. CalSavers for Norwalk employers covers deadlines, penalties and the 401(k) comparison.
- Families building a first portfolio. Brokerage, IRA and 529 accounts, tax-loss harvesting, and plain-language planning — bilingually, without a wealth minimum.
Which Norwalk employers do we know well?
Retirement advice is employer-specific, because plans are. These are the situations we see most from Norwalk and the immediate area:
City of Norwalk & county employees
CalPERS and LACERA members: formula tiers, service credit purchases, and the survivor election you only get to make once.
NLMUSD & Cerritos College staff
CalSTRS members with 403(b)s sold in the staff lounge — reviewing what those actually cost is often the highest-value hour we spend.
Kaiser & hospital-system staff
403(b)s, pensions and 401(k) rollovers when changing systems — and the direct-transfer rule that avoids 20% withholding.
Norwalk business owners
The CalSavers mandate now reaches every employer with one employee. Register, or sponsor a plan and certify an exemption — the arithmetic differs by owner.

Common questions from Norwalk
Do I need a certain amount of money to work with you?
No. There is no minimum to open an account and the ongoing minimum is $50 a month. This is deliberate — most firms in this area will not take a client under $250,000, and we built the firm for the people they turn away.
¿Hablan español?
Sí. Atendemos a clientes en inglés y español, y publicamos materiales en ambos idiomas — escritos originalmente, no traducidos. Vea nuestra página en español.
How are you paid, exactly?
Fee-only: 1.5%–2.0% of the assets we manage per year, billed quarterly, disclosed in writing before you engage. No commissions, no product sales, no referral payments in either direction. The full fee page and Form ADV Part 2A have every detail.
I work for the city / the school district. Can you help with my pension?
Yes. We model how CalPERS, CalSTRS and LACERA benefits fit with everything else you own, so the irreversible elections get made with the full picture in view. We are not affiliated with any of those systems and we never charge to look at a pension statement.
What should I bring to a first meeting?
Whatever you have: a recent pay stub, any account statements, your pension or 403(b) statement if you have one, and your questions. Nothing needs to be organised — that is our job.
